This 7 days / 6 nights Cairns Diving Liveaboard expedition takes visitors to the Northern section of the Cairns Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Queensland, Australia which has amazing coral reefs like the Ribbon Reefs, Osprey Reef and the world famous Cod Hole. Located on the fringes of Australia's Coral Sea, these reefs are veritable natural treasures. They are home to a wide array of marine and bird life.
The Ribbon Reefs have pristine coral garden with over 250 species. Over 1000 types of fish and 4000 types of invertebrates thrive in this remote place. In addition the coral cays are home to over 215 types of sea birds and nesting place for 5 of the world's 7 species of sea turtles. The Cod Hole shelters the huge Potato Cod family, which weigh between 25 to 60 Kg each and is a protected species. The idyllic Osprey Reef located about 192 Km off Queensland's coast, has beautiful soft corals often exceeding 2 metres in height, shoals of pelagic fish and lots of shark action.
The entire region is a diver's paradise with depths ranging from a few metres to 40 metres. Being on the fringes of the Coral Sea, the visibility is generally better than average. There are convenient 3 itineraries to choose from that reduce travel time while maximizing diving time. The 7 days / 6 nights expedition begins at 1.30 PM on alternate Tuesdays in Cairns and ends at 8.45 AM on alternate Mondays in Cairns.
The onward journey to Cooktown from Cairns is via 40 minutes light aircraft flight. From there the journey continues via fast luxurious catamaran. The 22 metre steel hulled catamaran has been designed for comfort, easy diving and long expeditions. This catamaran has twin, double and quad sharing air conditioned cabins with private facilities. It also has entertainment centre with TV, video library, large salon and spacious sundeck. A variety of meals is provided to guests breakfasts, in-between dives snacks, buffet lunch and sit down dinner.
The Cairns Scuba Diving Liveaboard trip would be a lifelong memorable experience for divers. The trip includes 23 dives and 5 diving days including night dives. The exact itinerary and no. of dives are subject to weather and tidal considerations which can be adverse at times. Some of the diving sites in this tour are Pixie Reef, Challenger Bay, Dynamite Pass, Clam gardens, Steves Bommie and Escape Reef. The diving has individual gear lockers, camera table, 240v charging station, air filling station, tank racks, emergency medical supplies and satellite phone. All diving equipment like dive computers, dive lights, underwater photographic equipment, regulators etc are available for rent on board. Divers are expected to be certified by major certified agency. Special solo diving course, advanced and specialty courses are available for those interested in furthering their diving skills.
The tour package includes non alcoholic beverages, 3 meals and snacks per day and flight from Cairns to Cooktown, and does not include diving gear like computer, camera etc., alcoholic beverages, and diving instructions / coaching. Complimentary return coach transfers to hotel accommodation within Cairns are available.
People who have asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, heart issues or some other medical conditions may not be allowed to dive.
