Day 1 Cairns - Bamaga (D)
This morning make your own way to Cairns Domestic Airport to meet your tour representative. Your adventure begins when you board your aircraft to fly over the Great Barrier Reef to Horn Island. Transfer by ferry to Thursday Island, capital of the Torres Strait Islands. Time now to enjoy a guided tour of the island (included). After lunch (own expense today) transfer by ferry to Seisia on mainland Australia. Resort Bamaga is your home for two nights.
Day 2 Lockerbie Scrub - Cape York (BL)
A fascinating visit to the beautiful Lockerbie Scrub, an isolated pocket of monsoon rainforest, on our way to historic Somerset on Albany passage where you can ponder the past, our explorers, pioneers and the Cape's traditional owners. Now, an emotional walk to the very top of Australia CAPE YORK! Dinner is at your own expense this evening. Resort Bamaga tonight.
Day 3 Telegraph Track - Fruit Bat Falls - Moreton (BLD)
Across the mighty Jardine River then 4WD adventure and fun on the famous Telegraph Track travelling through Cape York's unique wilderness of gigantic termite mounds, crystal clear creeks, carnivorous pitcher plants and prehistoric cycads. Visit picturesque Fruit Bat Falls, a great chance to swim in its pristine spring-fed waters. On to the Wenlock River, site of the historic Moreton Telegraph Office. We overnight at Moreton's delightful permanent tent safari camp.
Day 4 Coen - Musgrave (BLD)
Meet some locals at classic outposts today. Cross the Wenlock River and sprawling sandbanks of the Archer River to the old gold mining town of Coen. Visit Musgrave, the century old Telegraph Station and now working cattle station before relaxing at Lotus Bird Lodge, a picturesque haven.
Day 5 Lakefield National Park (BLD)
Explore Lakefield National Park, Queensland's second largest at 537,000 hectares (1.25 million acres). Waterlily covered billabongs, wildlife and a great variety of birdlife makes for a memorable day. Cross a cattle station to Jowalbinna, an epicentre of Aboriginal rock art. In the evening chat around a bush campfire. Cabin accommodation.
Day 6 Cooktown (BLD)
Walk to ancient sites on Jowalbinna's sandstone escarpments and investigate the lives of the original inhabitants, and enjoy a refreshing creek swim. Visit the fascinating Quinkan Cultural Centre telling the story of indigenous, pioneering and contemporary life in Cape York. Travel through the agricultural district of Lakeland with the opportunity to buy locally grown coffee en route to historic Cooktown, and our overnight stop at The Sovereign Resort Hotel.
Day 7 Black Mountain - Bloomfield Track - Cairns (BL)
Walk where Captain Cook walked and enjoy the spectacular views from atop Grassy Hill on a tour of Cooktown. Leaving Cooktown we visit the quaint Lion's Den Hotel and eerie Black Mountain before 4WD action on the rugged Bloomfield Track (weather permitting). Now the famous World Heritage listed Wet Tropics Daintree Rainforest before a leisurely drive to Port Douglas and Cairns ending your fascinating safari of adventure and discovery in Australia's far north.
