S.S. YONGALA Shipwreck SCUBA Diving Code:adren
Within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park of Cairns Queensland lies the SS Yongala Shipwreck which is a national historic site. The ship wreck occurred in 1911 when the SS Yongala was caught in a cyclone with all 121 on board. The site was discovered quite recently in 1958, and has remained mostly untouched due to its secluded location. The wreck begins at 14m below sea level and ends at 28m. Being the sole reef structure in the Cairns scuba diving region, marine life has accumulated in it providing a memorable experience for visitors. The entire wreck consisting of artefacts, varieties of corals and marine life is a visual treat for divers. Note that caution should be exercised by divers as the sea conditions at the site may be rough due to its location and there may be strong currents. Sea sickness medicines should be discussed with a pharmacist prior to departure. It's a diving experience that any visitor would remember for the rest of their life!
People who have asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, heart issues or some other medical conditions may not be allowed to do an introductory dive.
