The Cairns Tjapukai Aboriginal Culture Park is the place to visit for historians and others interested in knowing about Australia's 40,000 year old culture. Visitors to this park can explore the authentic aboriginal culture of the Tjapukai tribe, view Stone Age artifacts used by them, study the murals, listen to their music and watch them dance.
This half day trip takes the visitors to the 25 acre park located 15 minutes north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway. The park has Creation and History Theatre, Cultural Village, Magic Space and Tjapukai Dance Theatre that engages guests for at least 3 hours. You can interact with the Tjapukai tribes, the rainforest people, learn to throw the boomerang and the spear, listen to music from didgeridoo, and also learn about bush food and medicines. Tjapukai Cultural Village shows interactive demonstrations of the boomerangs, didgeridoo and bush foods. In the Creation and History Theatre, visitors can learn about the wondrous legends of the aborigines and their history while in the Dance Theatre they can witness Tjapukai dance and music. Magic Space is a museum of ancient and modern artworks. Authentic indigenous souvenirs like artwork etc. can be bought from the Tjapukai Retail Gallery while the Boomerang Restaurant serves light snacks, buffet lunch and coffee. Departure from Cairns at 8.30am & 12.30pm and return at 2.00pm & 4.30pm.
